Traditional IOLs or monofocal lenses offer vision at one distance only (far, intermediate, or near). These IOLs often require you to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses in order to read, use a computer, or view objects at intermediate distances, especially if you are already experiencing presbyopia before cataract surgery.
Multifocal and accommodating IOLs offer the possibility of seeing well at more than one distance, without glasses or contacts after cataract surgery. A Center for VisionCare offers multifocal and accommodating IOLs.
